Privacy Policy
In force from: 13 October 2026
Here is a plain account of the personal information that passes through mastersofthecourt, what we do with it, who else may see it, and the controls you have.
Responsible organisation
Personal data handled via this site is controlled by:
Swan Lake First Nation
Registered office: Carberry, Manitoba, Canada
Email: [email protected]
Data questions go to [email protected].
Information involved
- Connection details logged by our web host when a page loads: IP address, browser user agent string, device category, the page that referred you, and a timestamp.
- Rough geography, worked out from the IP address at country or city level only. Precise GPS-style location is never requested.
- Messages you write through the contact form: name, email, subject area and text. Because the form drafts an email in your own mail app, nothing reaches us unless you send it.
- Your consent setting, held in your own browser.
Purposes and legal grounds
- Keeping the site online and safe, on the basis of our legitimate interest: delivering pages, blocking abuse, diagnosing faults.
- Analytics, only with consent: seeing in aggregate which pages are useful.
- Marketing and referral attribution, only with consent: allowing booking partners to credit a referral to us.
- Replying to messages, on the basis of legitimate interest or because you asked us to act.
Recipients and international transfers
Data reaches others only where needed: the company hosting the site, our email service, an analytics service if you switch analytics on, and affiliate or partner networks and booking platforms if you allow advertising cookies or click a booking link. Some of them operate in other countries, which may be outside the EEA or UK. For those transfers we use recognised safeguards, for example the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Personal information is never sold to anyone for cash.
Retention periods
- Host access logs: a maximum of 90 days, longer only while a specific security incident is being looked into.
- Correspondence: deleted no later than 24 months after the last message in a thread.
- Consent setting: kept in the browser for up to 12 months, or until you wipe site data.
Rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR and similar regimes
You can request a copy of the data we hold on you, have it corrected or erased, limit how we use it or object to that use, and receive it in a portable format. Consent can be pulled back whenever you like; processing that took place before stays lawful. You are also entitled to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority where you live or work. For visitors in Canada, we handle personal information in line with PIPEDA, and you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
Rights for California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
You may ask which categories of personal information we collect, use and disclose; ask us to correct or delete it; and tell us not to sell it or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Pressing "Reject All" in the consent banner applies that opt-out on the browser you are using. Exercising any of these rights will not lead to worse service.
Sending a request
Write to [email protected], or use the contact desk with "Personal data or privacy" selected. Before acting we may need to verify that the request is really yours. Expect an answer within the legal deadline, which is usually a month.
Under-18s
mastersofthecourt is written for adult travellers and is not aimed at minors. We do not knowingly gather information about anyone under 18.
